“Seeds of Solidarity” – A comic book to rethink engagement differently

Seeds of Solidarity is a comic book that tells the stories of people involved in solidarity initiatives, in France and internationally. It draws inspiration from an initiative led since 2015 by the organization Frères des Hommes : the International Solidarity Nursery, a program that supports volunteers in creating solidarity projects.

In 2023, a capitalization of this program was carried out by a research collective called “Les Orageuses.” During a mixed capitalization workshop, where volunteers were invited to take part in the reflection, a proposal was made to share the results of this work through a comic book that would highlight the achievements, questions, and evolutions of the program. Based on collected testimonies and analyses, the Frères des Hommes team organized writing workshops and collaborated with an illustrator to develop this comic book.

Through a fictional story grounded in real-life situations gathered during this process, Seeds of Solidarity sheds light on the learning experiences, doubts, motivations, and obstacles encountered by those who are engaged. It also addresses very practical questions : how can one find their place in a collective project ? How can engagement be balanced with personal life ? How can one act consistently in a world shaped by social and environmental emergencies ?

Designed as an educational tool, this comic book invites everyone to reflect on their own forms of engagement and to imagine ways of acting that are fairer, more collective, and more sustainable.
