Supporting participative dynamics

A training module created by Train to Transform

The aim of this training module is to help organizations set up training programs to build the capacity of people in charge of supporting participative dynamics : facilitators, volunteers, etc. It was developed by a working group of the "Former pour Transformer" collective, combining experiences from the collective’s Participation Fund and experiments carried out by organizations in other frameworks.

The group met four times between October 2023 and March 2024, in order to devise a joint training course on supporting participative processes. Members of Duhamic-Adri, Fedina, FDH, MPP and UGPM took part in this work.

The training sequences presented in this booklet are therefore inspired by the practice of several member organisations and have been rethought by the working group to adapt to this particular topic. This training module reflects the desire of the collective’s member organisations to constantly improve our practices and know-how, so that together, we can move towards social transformation !

How to use it

In the booklet, you’ll find posture guidelines, tools, animations... Everything you need to set up your own "Supporting participative dynamics" training course !

Six training sequences have been devised, i.e. six distinct times that can be used "à la carte". Each sequence lasts between 30 min and 2 hours, and each organization can adjust the time to suit the number and profile of participants. The order in which the sequences appear in the booklet is a suggestion. Each organization is free to choose from the sequences that interest him or her.

- Sequence 1 : "Letting go”.
Sequence 2 : "The participation ladder”.
Sequence 3 : "Positions and power relations".
Sequence 4 : "Building a desire for joint action".
Sequence 5 : "Four corners debate : the roles of each party in participative action".
 Sequence 6 : "Anti-participation tips".

If you choose to do all the sequences, you will need to allow for two half-days (again, you don’t have to do them in order !).

Now it’s your turn !
