4Structure as a collective to have more power to act

"Populations in situations of vulnerabilities are organising as collectives to promote their individual emancipation and capacity to act"

Shared observations and working assumptions :

To encourage individual emancipation, the training processes are accompanied by strategies to structure populations in situations of vulnerabilities as collectives.

Structuring as collectives involves an articulation between individual support and collective support.

The collective is structured by collective realisation, the collective capacity to reflect and analyse the situation that is experienced. The collective sets a vision for itself, and acquires the capacities and resources to change the situation.

Conducting actions and "doing things together" contribute to structuring as a collective.

The collective becomes autonomous by striving for the common interest, so that it is able to offer solutions itself and collective action on its territory.

Within the collectives, strategies are set up to reduce the discrimination and relationships of domination, and strengthen the power to act of the collective.

APEF supports the structuring of women’s artisan collectives in terms of dyeing, embroidery and sewing. They are organising in small Units of Collective Production. The technical training via recycling, exchanging experiences, visiting other collectives, and organising open days for all collectives, for example, are some of the strategies implemented to promote innovation (to identify prospects) and emancipation.
